I recently discovered the podcast and really enjoy it, but I still feel a little lost and don’t know where to start

AMA question #9:

“I discovered the podcast a few days ago and have been listening quite a bit. I really enjoy it, but I must admit I still feel a little lost. I just really do not know where to start. I know that is incredibly vague, but its how I view things at this point.”

Here’s our answer.

Key points:

  • Good question. If you’re at this place, start small.  Take the Opt Out Life “Challenge”. Designed for quick wins.
  • Our podcast is inspirational and will continue to be.  We get into the instructional in our course (Blueprint) and membership (TRIBE).
  • But here’s a good suggestion: go to an event.  What are you into? An event will do a lot of things for you. 1) Get you out of your routine 2) You’ll learn something 3) You’ll satisfy a curiosity  4) You’ll meet people who are doing things

Nate: “I discovered the podcast a few days ago and I have been listening quite a bit.” Well, thank you sir. “I really enjoy it, but I must admit I still feel a little lost. I just really do not know where to start. I know that is incredibly vague, but it’s how I view things at this point.”

Dana: Yes, and we have a lot of these kind of listeners that are digging it. They’re inspired and they’re like, I’m in. I’m opt out.

Nate: Right, right.

Dana: Now where? How do I start? We’re building the blueprint for this person. When we launch that, if you’re early on it, you might get a discount. I think it’s gonna bring a lot of value with the blueprint. It’s gonna go through side gigs we’ve had and why they’ve done well, businesses that we have owned, legal and intellectual property aspects, so you get a lot of practical from the blueprint. And, the tribe. It’s monthly membership that we’re gonna have. Being in part of the tribe is gonna put you around us weekly, daily, but also other tribe members that are further along and you’re gonna learn and be inspired by what they’ve done. We’re putting together something that’s exactly what this particular listener needs, but we also have a couple of cool things that we’ve just built. One of them is called the challenge.

Nate: Yeah, I like the challenge because the blueprint and the tribe are both things that you have to pay for. We think it’s a nominal fee for the value that you’re going to get and we encourage people to check those out seriously. But, if you’re not quite ready to commit to that, we’re starting to think through how can we help these people with small steps? Because a lot of people that want to opt out, as we’ve defined it, aren’t necessarily ready to do it, either. They may say where do I begin? Well, let’s begin with looking at yourself, looking at your routines, looking at the things that you’re doing on the day-to-day that might be holding you back from even opting out, so we’ve come up with this opt out of life challenge, which is a free email course where you’re gonna get a series of emails, I think over 10 days is what we’re doing.

We’re gonna try to just train you and throw some things at you that are not like start a side gig. It’s like, look around at your routines. Look around your house. What’s going on in your life? Because, we’ve met people that we don’t think can opt out yet. This is inspired by that. We’re saying here’s something that’s free that can hopefully point you in the right direction to start. I encourage this person to sign up for the opt out of life challenge completely free. Go through those 10 days or so and see where they’re at at the end, and then email us back or check out blueprint and tribe. There’s one other point I wanna make about this.

Dana: Yeah, there’s one recommendation.

Nate: Oh, yes. This, I think, is the best recommendation. Should I throw it out there? You gonna throw it out there?

Dana: I’m gonna throw it out there today.

Nate: All right, go for it.

Dana: Because, this is Nate’s favorite recommendation.

Nate: Yeah.

Dana: And, I’m gonna evangelize for you, Nate.

Nate: Cool.

Dana: Go to an event. It’s the starting point for breaking out of your comfort zone, for getting out there and meeting people. Go to an event related to something that you might like to do. Meetup.com has got thousands of events in every city. Find an event. Great story you just told me was one of our mutual friends has been listening to the podcast and wanted to make a pivot from marketing into real estate, and did what you’ve been saying. Every podcast, you’re talking about the audacity to reach out and getting out and networking and being around other people that are doing the same thing. So, he went to an event around real estate. Learned something. Walked up, decided Nate always says just walk up and meet somebody, walked up to the speaker, met the speaker. Got invited to come to another event as a speaker. Met an investor at that event and it turned into his first real estate deal. All very quickly, all from getting out instead of watching TV and chilling and binging Netflix. Boom.

Nate: Yeah, I love it. Thank you for evangelizing and explaining the tactics there. Totally. Meetup.com, easy place to go. Find the next event, whether it’s gardening or real estate or whatever. Get out there. Meet some people, go shake someone’s hand. I love that story. We’re gonna tell it over and over. I also should say that he said yes to the speaking opportunity because he heard you say on the podcast that you should never pass up a speaking opportunity.

Dana: Yeah.

Nate: He was like, I don’t even know what I’m gonna talk about, but I’ve got a couple of weeks to figure it out before the next event so he said yes. A couple good opt out life principles in action there. Hopefully that’s some good advice to get you started.
