Vulnerable Moment: I’ve described the book writing process a bit like (wait for it) being Rocky. I went to the metaphorical forest and chopped wood for 3 years to get myself strong and prepared to train others how to fight with courage. With that perspective, when my book finally came out, I really felt like I wasn’t at the end — but in the middle of the journey. All that stated, when I went into @barnesandnoble yesterday and SAW my book available on their shelves I did have my first “stop the press” sentimental moment. As cliche as it is, this book is proof that you are on the rudder of your own life and, if you choose to, you get to decide how your story goes. #returnoncourage

Safe ideas, IMO, are the equivalent of staying on 16 at the Blackjack table. Safe ideas are the ultimate silent assassins and are far worse than bad ideas. A bad idea flops fast. Sure, you can take a bad idea on the chin, but you have the opportunity to learn from it and swiftly move on. Safe ideas move at a sloth-like pace and they nibble away at valuable time you can’t buy back. Safe ideas live for years under the radar, slowly killing your people, your brand, your bottom line and your business. Over time, safe ideas will save no one at your company. I’ll admit it. I’m so glad I didn’t grow up with the internet. I saw enough bullying navigating public school that the idea of cyberbullying made bullying an around the clock epidemic. I’m grateful that companies like @nobully_org and @adcouncil exist to take on this growing issue. And I’m thankful for vocal influencers like @iamthelibster, @ladygaga @jessicaalba, @taylorswift and @justinbieber who choose to use their communities to make a difference. #SockBullying #sockproblems

There's a famous proverb that fear and courage are brothers. That you can't get to the courageous move without first channeling it through fear. Of course, many of us at work suppress fear vs address fear. One of my favorite interviews for "Return On Courage" was with Virgin Galactic Astronaut, Loretta Hidalgo. Loretta shared, "Fear is just a piece of information. It's evolutionary, created to protect you. Fear is not trying to hurt you." We have the wrong idea about what it means to be fearless. I prefer we fear MORE. That means getting to know those business fears that could make your business irrelevant. When was the last time you audited your industry fear? Your product fear? A perception fear? Or, the reality of those personal fears you carry with you into your office? Part of my hope for my new book "Return On Courage" is to help corporate leaders be proactive in smoking out their business fears so they can put a plan together to shrink them down vs, the alternative, which is having them take YOU down. Being proactive, putting together a calculated plan and then taking action on that strategy is the difference between being a stasis Coward Brand and a calculated Courage Brand. #ReturnOnCourage #CourageBrands #roc4roi
